"Lutherans understand the church to be people, God's house of living stones... " - What we believe

There are numerous opportunities to join in a ministry or provide a helping hand to God's works.  Below are listed the ministries of St. Mark and opportunities of almost every kind to be a stone in God's house of living stones.

Volunteers Needed

Immediate and Upcoming Opportunities to be a "Stone in God's House"

Wanted:  Donations of washable markers (8 to 12-pack), pencils, erasers, crayons (24-pack), scissors, colored pencils, pencil pouch holders, stickers, and cash donations for the purchase of notebooks are sought for the Rotational Sunday School classes studying the parable of the Good Samaritan.  The students are involved in an outreach project with school children from Ecuador and will be using these supplies to make canvas tote bags with school supply items for the Ecuadorian children.  Please bring in your school supplies and place them in the donation box in the narthex.

Wanted:  Volunteers are needed for approximately one hour on Sunday mornings to help in Cafe St. Mark.  Regular volunteers need help so that they may attend Sunday worship.  Contact Chef Connie Hildreth or Helen Travis if you are interested.

Wanted:   Volunteers for Cafe' St. Mark, to set tables, arrange flowers, wait tables at Wednesday evening dinner, bus, prepare food, and cook.  This is a wonderful opportunity for young people to learn about the food service business and to wait tables!  Come on in and join the fun...those people in the kitchen have a good time.

Wanted:  The Evangelism Board is looking for new members with smiling faces for this coming year. Contact Joan Farr for more information.  This is a group of very warm and friendly people who enjoy helping out by supporting new groups, greeting guests on Sundays, cooking for New Members classes, and generally spreading the Light!

During the month of March, the Community Outreach committee will be collecting old cell phones and accessories for an organization called Cell Phones For Soldiers.  This non-profit organization was founded by two teenagers who collect the cell phones and then sell them to ReCellular for reprogramming and recycling.  With the proceeds of the cell phone sales, Cell Phones for Soldiers purchases phone cards that are then sent to military troops stationed overseas to help them stay in contact with their families.  For more information about Cell Phones for Soldiers, please click here.  If you have any questions regarding the drive, please contact Susan Doherty at 898-0274.

Community Outreach is also supporting the Ronald McDonald House in Richmond.   Drop off your metal tabs (from soda cans) in th plasic donation box in the narthex.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Class:

The Catechesis class is looking for a plant stand.  The stand is about 3 feet tall, the plant is placed in a basket like container, and the planter stands on tripod legs. We are going to transform it into a baptismal font.  Please contact Sandy Hopkins, 898-7351.  Thank you.

Easter Candy for the Easter Egg Hunt:

Each year on Easter Sunday, the Youtherans sponsor an Easter Egg Hunt for all of the children of St. Mark.  While there are plenty of easter eggs to go around, we are asking for donations of candy to fill the eggs.  If you would like to donate candy for this cause, please drop it off in the church office no later than March 16, 2008.
