BRIEF ORDER FOR
CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS
The minister leads the congregation in the invocation. The sign of the
cross may be made by all in remembrance of their Baptism.
V: In the name
of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen
V: Almighty
God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets
are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy
Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
C: Amen
V: If we say we have no sin, we deceive
ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God who is
faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.
Kneel Silence for reflection
and self-examination.
V: Most
merciful God,
C: we confess that we are in bondage to sin
and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and
deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you
with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the
sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and
lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the
glory of your holy name. Amen
The minister stands and addresses the congregation.
V: In the
mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for you, and for his sake
God forgives you all your sins. To those who believe in Jesus Christ he gives
the power to become the children of God and bestows on them the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen

P: The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love
of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
C: And also with you.

HYMN OF PRAISE

O God, you know that we cannot withstand the dangers
which surround us. Strengthen us in body and spirit so that, with your help, we
may be able to overcome the weakness that our sin has brought upon us; through
Jesus Christ, your Son our Lord. Amen.

4Now the word of the LORD came to me saying, 5"Before
I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated
you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations." 6Then I said, "Ah, Lord GOD!
Truly I do not know how to speak, for I am only a boy." 7But
the LORD said to me, "Do not say, 'I am only a boy'; for you shall go to
all to whom I send you, and you shall speak whatever I command you. 8Do
not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, says the LORD." 9Then
the LORD put out his hand and touched my mouth; and the LORD said to me, "Now
I have put my words in your mouth. 10See, today I appoint you over
nations and over kingdoms, to
pluck up and to pull down, to
destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant."

1In you, O LORD, have I | taken refuge;
let me never be | put to shame.
2In your righteousness, deliver me and | set
me free;
incline your ear to | me and save me.
3Be my strong rock, a castle to | keep me
safe;
you are my crag | and my stronghold.
4Deliver me, my God, from the hand | of the
wicked,
from the clutches of the evildoer and | the
oppressor.
5For you are my hope, | O Lord GOD,
my confidence since | I was young.
6I have been sustained by you ever since I was born;
from my mother's womb you have | been my strength;
my praise shall be al- | ways of you.
Second
If I speak in the tongues
of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging
cymbal. 2And if I have
prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have
all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3If I give away all my possessions,
and if I hand over my body so that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain
nothing. 4Love is
patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant 5or rude. It does not insist on
its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;
6it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the
truth. 7It bears all things,
believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8Love
never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues,
they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end. 9For we know only in part, and we
prophesy only in part; 10but
when the complete comes, the partial will come to an end. 11When I was a child, I spoke like
a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an
adult, I put an end to childish ways. 12For
now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know
only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. 13And now faith, hope, and love
abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.

SERMON
Pastor Erdos

Nicene Creed (In Unison)
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty,
maker of
heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of
God,
eternally
begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light,
true God
from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father.
Through him
all things were made. For us and for our salvation
he came down
from heaven; by the power of the Holy Spirit
he became
incarnate from the virgin Mary, and was made man.
For our sake
he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried.
On the third
day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended
into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come
again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his
kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of
life,
who proceeds
from the Father and the Son.
With the
Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.
He has
spoken through the prophets.
We believe
in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We
acknowledge one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for
the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
PRAYERS (Kneel) After
each portion of the prayers:
V: Lord, in your
mercy,
C: hear our prayer.
The prayers conclude:
P: Into your hands, O Lord,
we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy; through your Son, Jesus
Christ our Lord.
C:
Amen.
SHARING OF THE PEACE (stand)
P: The peace of the Lord be with you always.
C: And also with you.

PRAYER V: Let us pray. Blessed are you,
C: O Lord
our God, maker of all things. Through
your goodness you have blessed us with these gifts. With them we offer
ourselves to your service and dedicate our lives to the care and redemption of
all that you have made, for the sake of him who gave himself for us, Jesus
Christ our Lord. Amen

P: It is indeed
right and salutary . . . . . . we praise your name and join their unending
hymn:

P: We give you thanks, Father, through Jesus Christ, your
beloved Son,
whom you sent in this end of the ages
to save and redeem us and to proclaim to us your will.
He is your Word,
inseparable from you.
Through him you created all
things,
and in him you take delight.
He is your Word,
sent from heaven to a virgin's womb.
He there took on our nature
and our lot
and was shown forth as your Son,
born of the Holy Spirit and of the virgin Mary.
It is he, our Lord Jesus, who
fulfilled all your will
and won for you a holy people;
he stretched out his hands in suffering
in order to free from suffering those who trust you.
It is he who, handed over to
a death he freely accepted,
in order to destroy death, to break the bonds of the evil
one,
to crush hell underfoot, to give light to the righteous,
to establish his covenant, and to show forth the
resurrection,
taking bread and giving thanks to you, said:
Take and eat; this is my
body, broken for you.
Do this for the remembrance
of me.
In the same way he took the
cup, gave thanks,
and gave it for all to drink, saying:
This is my blood poured out
for you.
Do this for the remembrance
of me.
Remembering, then, his death
and resurrection,
we lift this bread and cup before you,
giving you thanks that you have made us worthy
to stand before you and to serve you as your priestly
people.
And we ask you:
Send your Spirit upon these gifts of your Church;
gather into one all who share this bread and wine;
fill us with your Holy Spirit to establish our faith in
truth,
that we may praise and glorify you through your Son Jesus
Christ.
Through him all glory and
honor are yours,
Almighty Father, with the Holy Spirit,
in your holy Church both now and forever.
C: Amen
LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass
against us;
and lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the
power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen

presence is in the sacrament of Holy Communion.
If you are a baptized Christian, we invite you to participate with
us. Children who have been instructed or
